•Quarrying the facing stone.

•Cutting and dressing the stone.

•Collecting stone rubble for the wall core filling.

•Making lime mortar in enormous quantities (hence the need for such large amounts of water, also facilitated by the construction team).

•Gathering timber for scaffolding, which the team then had to erect.

•Transporting these materials to the construction site itself.

•Actually building the wall, including excavating the foundations.

•Excavating associated infrastructure, including defensive ditches and the rear-facing vallum , which given the boulder clay soils would have been the most arduous task associated with building the wall.

•Administering all of the above.
